Her Story: Kristin Smith

Founder of The Clad Life, a fashion icon & stylist, mom to Isaiah, and a total boss babe—Kristin Smith is our #wcw today and always. Kristin is the stunning kind of beautiful, but the depth of her spirit is what causes you to linger in conversation, laughter, and complete awe of who she is. “I am a work in progress. If trusting the Lord and His plans for me is my destiny, then consider it fulfilled!” - Kristin Smith

ALL THE SINGLE LADIES

If it hadn’t been for the foundational season I had with God before I got married, I don’t think I would have been ready for marriage. I believe what we do with our single years will prepare a foundation for the marriage we will have someday. It’s in these years that we learn who we are, how to love and respect ourselves, and how to develop a deep relationship with God.

THE BOOKS OF I & II THESSALONIANS

Though these books are small, as a group called Equipped by Faith, we can learn a lot from the church of Thessalonica. They were praised for their faithfulness. Paul continued by saying, “wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God.” Faith is such a powerful thing. Though the early church faced persecution for having faith in Christ, they boldly stepped out in faith because they believed in Jesus. Today, we don’t face the same kinds of persecution the Thessalonians did—but our faith is still constantly challenged every day when we face sickness, financial problems, relationship issues, and even in the struggle to find our purpose in life.

Her Story: Ify Ikekhua

Ify is not only a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and speaker—but she is the soon to be author of the inspirational book, “TAKE DOMINION” releasing next month, November 22, 2018. The book was inspired by Ify's move from Nigeria, Africa to the United States in 2009 when she found herself in an abusive marriage. She had to make the choice—to live or to die, and decided that her life was worth so much more than she was living for. She and her children left the abuse and walked into a life filled with purpose and destiny. Now, Ify encourages women to follow after their hopes and dreams in order to take dominion over every aspect of life.

SERVE WITH SOUPMOBILE

For several years, Field and I have been giving to a Dallas-based organization we support called SoupMobile. SoupMobile was founded in 2003 by David Timothy (lovingly referred to as “The Soup Man”) with a desire to feed and shelter the homeless right here in our own backyard. David focuses on two main things every day of his life: bringing the love of Christ to people and serving the homeless. Each year, we support this ministry through giving to their clothing drives, Christmas events, and my favorite—the "Breakfast with Jesus" pancake breakfast.

THE BOOKS OF I & II CORINTHIANS

The books of 1 & 2 Corinthians were letters written to the church of Corinth by the Apostle Paul with the purpose to unify the church in love, spiritual gifts, holiness, and generosity. These books are packed with wisdom and encouragement for life—but one main theme is laced throughout the text: God is love.

I Will Not Fear

When the Bible encourages us not to fear in verses like, Psalm 23:4 (“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”) or 2 Timothy 1:7 (“God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-control.”), it can be easier said than done. Fear is one of those things we will likely have to battle every day of our lives, as it seems to creep in rather easily through our finances, relationships, careers and even our future. The good thing is, when we learn what to do with fear when it shows up, we no longer have to tolerate it or allow it to stay past its welcome.

Her Story: Lisa Sanchez

A single mother, Executive Assistant, and a total boss babe, Lisa Sanchez is the perfect display of beauty and strength. "I would call myself a servant. Anytime something gets tricky or the day gets crazy at work, I go back to Colossians 3:23 that says, 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…' I try to have the mindset of a servant at all times, knowing that every season we go through is a season of preparation—and it is necessary for our growth even if it doesn’t look the way we thought it would.” - Lisa Sanchez

HOW TO PRAY

One of the greatest passions in my life is helping others recognize and find their true calling. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. I know I would never have been able to get through some of the hardest moments in my life if it weren’t for prayer. I believe when we pray to God, amazing things happen. One of the biggest questions I get all the time is, “How do you pray?” I am at the point in my relationship with God that I simply talk to Him like I would my closest friend.

WHAT FAITH MEANS TO ME

Faith is trusting Him to make sense of every season of life. Whether it be choosing which college to attend, which career to pursue, or trusting that your spouse has already been set apart just for you. Faith is trusting that you will be a good mom or dad to your kids. Faith is trusting Him in our weaknesses and shortcomings. Faith is knowing that His plan is always better than ours, even when it doesn’t make sense. Faith is knowing that His plan is better than anything we could ever dream of…

MARKETPLACE MINISTRY

Years ago, I began asking God to show me how to be the bridge of faith between the church (ministry) and the marketplace (my career). I dreamed of making a difference right where God had me. It didn’t make sense at the time, but I knew God was calling me to take church outside the church. I wanted to BE the church, everywhere I went. I wanted to encourage, to inspire, and to share God with my friends and those I worked with—because that is where I spent the majority of my time.

THE BOOK OF ACTS

There can be so much division and disunity when it comes to different denominations and beliefs. But when we get distracted by what makes us different—the music we like, the preaching style we prefer, or even the color of our skin—we have to bring ourselves back to the basics of where the church began: the book of Acts, where God displayed His love and grace for ALL people.

Live Your Life in Love

I've found that love is the most powerful tool we have to encourage others, to bring peace to places of discord and to heal broken relationships. As believers, we should show love better than anyone else on the planet! My favorite part about our monthly EBF gathering is watching the women who come surround one another in love through trials and in celebration. They know they can come to each meeting, just as they are – knowing they will be accepted, whether they are struggling or succeeding.

YOUR WORDS EITHER CUT OR HEAL: Guest Blog from Judy Brooks

Your words have the power to heal or they can cut like the piercing of a sword. Those who speak sarcastically with belittling words may appear on the exterior to be fine, but on the inside, they are bruised and bleeding. If they do not receive healing from the invisible pain they suffer, it will show up in another form such as addiction, sickness, disease, or even worse. If you have been injured by words, you must recognize you need healing, and the only One who can heal your spirit is your Lord and Maker.

THE BOOK OF JOHN

John is one of my favorite gospels to read because it is written from a man who understood God’s love in a very real way. The other three gospels give us a beautiful account of Christ’s life on earth, but John writes in a way that inspires us to know Jesus’ love the way he did. John was one of Jesus’ disciples. He walked with Him. He saw His miracles firsthand. He listened to His teaching. And He experienced the love of Christ daily.
